Is India Really Independent?

At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom. A moment comes, which comes but rarely in history, when we step out from the old to the new, when an age ends, and when the soul of a nation, long suppressed, finds utterance… We end today a period of ill fortune, and India discovers herself again.”
These are the impressive words of the speech titled, “Tryst with Destiny” given by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on August 15, 1947. The real struggle for independence of India had begun almost 90 years before in 1857, when a group of sepoys mutinied against the East India Company.

Today, India mourns as we remember the victims of the Mumbai terrorist attack on 26.11.2008. The nation is clamouring for justice for the martyrs – in the form of Kasab’s speedy trial and punishment – and for taking effective steps to prevent such things from happening in the future.The one thought in the mind of a majority of the people in India is – Kasab is the only one of the attackers who survived, and got caught – it is only fair that he meets the same fate as those of the victims of the crime perpetrated by him.

He screamed – but that hardly ever helps. The mare screamed too, but she remembered that she was pregnant again – as every year, until she was not be able to get pregnant again and would be shot dead. A mare that couldn’t give birth was of no use to the owner, and there was no need for her to live any longer but, of course, she didn’t know the end yet….
The stallion moved on with his new life. He found new friends, on another lush green meadow. He was there until the second summer of life. Then, just as quickly as it had begun, youth ended.
