Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge!

Mar 11th, 2010 | By | Category: Movie Review

After a hectic week it was time to relax on the weekend, and what better way than to watch a comedy. Well that is what I was expecting the movie to be. To my disappointment, this was a badly done cocktail and, to my horror, a sheer waste of some real good actors.

The movie starts with Ajay Devgan, who happens to be a film writer, narrating a movie story. A joke lifted from a Pakistani play, which I just wished they had lifted completely, than just do a rehash.

Old Dogs- A Review!

Feb 22nd, 2010 | By | Category: Movie Review

What happens when you have two seasoned actors of Hollywood – Robin Williams and John Travolta – getting together in one movie? You would think that even with a very ordinary script, the movie would be high on entertainment, and your money would be well spent.

Well, not really. This movie is a disappointment; the director, Walt Becker, has just wasted two great and very professional actors. The story is weak, and the only saving grace in the movie are a few funny moments…

Rann – Or, Was it Run?

Feb 2nd, 2010 | By | Category: Movie Review

I had a lot of expectations from the movie after watching the promos, and that just added to the disappointment. Choosing to watch Amitabh Bachchan in Rann, over Ishqiya, proved to be a wrong decision it seems. The movie could have been better with a stronger story line. The actors have done their bit, but this movie can be a classic example of what can happen when even though your actors perform well, you don’t have a good story to tell – the movie just seems ordinary.

Avatar – Cinema Re-incarnated!

Dec 21st, 2009 | By | Category: Movie Review

A tweet review would be – “A visual and aesthetic treat. This marks the beginning of an era. Cameroon has done it yet again.”

Right from my cousin who’s in primary school, to my friend in college, to my NRI uncle, absolutely everyone has been mesmerized by this masterpiece. This has to be one of the very few movies that has lived up to its hype and has actually delivered more than it promised.

Rocket Singh – Takes off!

Knock Knock! who’s there? Loser. Loser Who?
Well I’m sure you know who I’m referring to!
With playing a loser of different losses in all of his movies, Ranbir Kapoor does it one more time in Rocket Singh – Salesman Of The Year, and somehow he manages to find a way to make this new loser look better than the others he has portrayed in the past.
Rocket Singh – Salesman of the Year revolves around the life of Harpreet Singh Bedi (Ranbir Kapoor) and his zest to become a salesman – a salesman, not the kind

Paa – Haaa Haaa!

Dec 5th, 2009 | By | Category: Movie Review

A friend asked me, “If Amitabh Bachchan was to die in the movie, would you cry?”

“No Way” was my prompt reply as, it seemed to me then, she had challenged my masculinity.

As much as I had assumed my givens for the movie, I knew that it would take a mesmerising performance from the characters to bring out a a few sniffs from me, and so at a houseful show I sat down intently to watch what Paa had to offer.

London Dreams – Not so Dreamy!!!

Nov 11th, 2009 | By | Category: Movie Review

Let me tell you the story before I get back to ripping it apart. It revolves around two childhood friends, Arjun (Ajay Devgan) and Manu (Salman Khan), living somewhere in the fields of Punjab. Music runs in both their families, but is cherished only in Manu’s, who couldn’t care less about it. Arjun, on the other hand, has the stereotypical Bollywood dreams of becoming…

Inglourious Basterds – A Review!

Nov 3rd, 2009 | By | Category: Movie Review

Inglourious Basterds is just one of the masterpieces from Quentin Tarantino (and after this movie you can expect many more). With this movie, however, he has raised the bar even for himself. The movie is shot mostly in Germany and France, and Tarantino has the gift of creating magic by getting into details, especially when it comes to making a period movie.
If you are expecting a typical war movie with lots of gun shots, tanks and air bombing raids, you will be disappointed.

Quickgun Murugun: Shoots & Misses the LOLs!

Sep 2nd, 2009 | By | Category: Movie Review

So, there’s a cool-dude named Rajnikantha, and there are people who absolutely love the route his sunglasses or cigarettes take to get to their respective destinations. Among these are people who can’t stop going gaga over his invincibility. Me? I find the silliness funny. The sunglass-cigarette routine make me smile about 3 times. But, then, it gets repetitive and thus predictable and ultimately boring.
Exactly what happens in Quickgun Murugun which spoofs Rajni?

Kaminey -Watch at Your Own Risk!!!

Aug 16th, 2009 | By | Category: Movie Review

What is the purpose of cinema? Does it lie in the telling of a tale so riveting that the viewer wishes it would never end? Does it comprise of the film-maker’s vision and his desire to show it to the world? Such as it may be, should he be allowed to indulge himself in creating an oeuvre that few understand and still fewer appreciate?
These questions hit you, left, right and centre, like shrapnel flying in a combat zone, when you elect to see “Kaminey”.
