Diwali

Today is Diwali, and I would like to wish everyone a very happy and a safe Diwali. Diwali is a festival of lights and just like we light the oil lamps to brighten our houses and streets on this day, let us also light up the lamps of knowledge to chase away the darkness of fear and ignorance.

Have a great Diwali this year!

The MAG chat room!

October 24th, 2008 by Editor | No Comments | Filed in Interactions

The MAG earlier had a shout box which had to be removed because it did not serve any major purpose, The only thing it did was that it allowed spammers to leave behind URL’s of sites that were by no means worth visiting.

After removing that shout box, I thought that The MAG could perhaps do with a complete chat room, and this chat room would be open only to registered users of The MAG. This idea was debated upon by a few members of The MAG and, like most issues, there was no one final consensus that was arrived upon.

So, we decided to learn by trial and go for it.

The MAG Chat room

One of the purposes of this chat room is to provide The MAG readers and writers a place to interact with each other, and I am sure this will happen in time. But to take a step in this direction it has been decided that from 8 PM to 9 PM, every Saturday, we will try to spend some time in this chat room.

I will be there this Saturday. Will you?

NaNoWriMo

October 19th, 2008 by Editor | No Comments | Filed in NaNoWriMo

NaNoWriMo 2008 is here.

You ask what is NaNoWriMo? In a very few words NaNowrimo, or National Novel Writing Month, is an annual event that is held in the month of November every year. Participants from all over the world try their best to complete a 50,000 novella in one month. Any one who completes the target is a winner.

Sounds like an interesting idea? Then what are you waiting for?

Visit the site (click on the image in the post) and register for NaNoWriMo 2008. Wishing you the best of writing!

P.S. - Look out for the NaNoWriMo article on The MAG.

What is in a Page Rank?

October 16th, 2008 by Editor | No Comments | Filed in PR

The question that the title raises may be answered differently by different people. The answers may vary from “page rank is nothing but a number” to “it is a number without which the entire existence of a site does not have any meaning.”

And then, there will be the majority whose answer will lie between the two extremes. In this post I am not going to talk about the definition or the significance of page rank. I think this question has been answered by too many people, in too many posts, and the blogosphere does not need another post on the subject.

What I am going to talk about is the page rank of The MAG, and why I think it needs to be improved.

Vote for The MAG

October 12th, 2008 by Editor | No Comments | Filed in Awards

When you do a good job, you look forward to being appreciated. Though it is said (and I completely agree) that any work is its own reward, yet, an award, every now and then, cannot hurt, can it?

Blogger’s Choice Awards were started last year in an attempt to give more exposure to good blogs and sites that are floating around in the cyber-o-sphere. This year The MAG has also been nominated for the awards in the “Blogitzer” category which is a category for blogs with good writing.

Though it seems to be kind of late (as only four days are left for the voting for the awards to end), I thought it would be a good idea to send a shout out to all the readers to vote for The MAG.

My site was nominated for The Blogitzer!

If you like what we are doing at The MAG, it would be great if you would spare a few minutes of your time and vote for The MAG at the Blogger’s Choice Awards. All you have to do is click on the image above, register on the site and then click on the little vote button next to the thumbnail image of The MAG.

At the time of writing this The MAG has got six votes, and I think we need at least 200 more to be in contention. So, what are you waiting for, go and vote! If possible, get your friends to vote too.

A New Beginning

October 11th, 2008 by Editor | No Comments | Filed in General

The MAG has had a blog for quite some time, but if you have been one of those who have checked it out often then you would have noticed that it was not being updated often.  So, the question that arose was : “Does The MAG even need a blog?”

I asked this question to many of the readers of  The MAG, and also to many contributors, but a clear-cut answer did not emerge. Some said it was a good idea, while others felt that it was not yet time to start a blog.

I feel that The MAG needs a blog. The need for a blog arises because the blog is a good medium to talk about what is going on at The MAG; it is a place where we can let our hair down, discuss things, and hope some of the readers come up with ideas that beat ours. After all, the best part of being online is the speed at which things change.

Talking about speed, it is also imperative that if there is a blog, then it is updated as often as possible.  So, it will be an endeavour from here on to update this blog as often as possible. In that context, I think it will be a good idea if we have many contributors to the blog too - that will help by addindg a dash of variety to the blog. So, if you are interested in writing for the blog, feel free to drop a comment.

Till next time!
